Should I Replace Gutters at the Same Time as My Roof?

If hail dented your roof, it almost certainly dented your gutters — and doing both at once is cheaper, cleaner, and better for the warranty.

Last updated July 2026

The short version

  • Dented gutters are usually part of the same claim, not a separate expense.
  • Drip edge and gutter apron are installed at the roof edge — sequencing matters.
  • Doing it later means paying a second mobilization and risking damage to a new roof edge.
  • Seamless gutters sized to Colorado's fast, heavy summer runoff outperform stock sections.

The sequencing argument

Drip edge, gutter apron, and the first course of shingles all meet at the eave. When gutters go on after a roof, the installer works around finished shingles and fasteners land in a completed edge. When they go on as part of the same job, the flashing laps correctly the first time and water goes where it's supposed to.

What insurance usually covers

Hail large enough to bruise shingles nearly always dents aluminum gutters and downspouts — and those dents are frequently the collateral evidence that proves the storm. Most approved hail claims include gutter replacement in the scope. If your adjuster's estimate omits them, that's a supplement, not a loss.

Sizing for Colorado runoff

Front Range summer storms deliver a lot of water in a short window. On steep pitches and long runs we size up to six-inch seamless gutter with oversized downspouts so the system actually keeps up, rather than overshooting and dumping against the foundation.

Common questions

Will insurance pay for gutters after hail?

Usually yes, when the gutters show impact damage. If they're missing from the scope we file a supplement with photo documentation.

How much do seamless gutters cost in Colorado Springs?

It depends on linear footage, gutter size, and downspout count. We quote gutters as a separate line item so you can see exactly what they cost within the larger job.

Do I need gutter guards in Black Forest?

Under heavy pine cover, yes — needle load is the main cause of clogged systems and ice damming in that area.
